Spearfish Junior League Basketball Competitive Season
1st Grade
In an effort to continue fundamental development, our 1st grader do not compete in games. They will have 1-hour sessions on Saturday mornings during the competitive season. During these sessions, we will continue skill building started during the fall clinics. As well as start to introduce game situations. Parents are welcome and encouraged to come and watch these sessions.
2nd-3rd Grade
2nd & 3rd graders compete together during the competitive season. Games consist of 10 minute running quarters, played on 9-foot hoops. No score is kept during 2nd-3rd grade games.
4th-5th Grade
4th-5th graders compete together during the competitive season. Games consist of 10 minute running quarters, played on 10-foot hoops. Score is kept, and wins and loses are totaled for the season. Teams compete in a end-of-the-season tournament on the last day of games, with seeding based on wins and loses during the season.
6th Grade
6th graders compete on their own. The goal of the 6th grade competitive season is to prepare them for middle school basketball. All will practice together, and be split up into teams on Saturdays during the year. Each player will have a chance to play with everyone, with focus on the next level of basketball and preparing for Middle and High School Basketball.
Girls
- Practices start week of September 30th
- Games start Saturday, October 5th
- Games end Saturday, November 2nd
Boys
- Practices start week of November 4th
- Games start Saturday, November 9th
- Games end Saturday, December 14th
